Eni Ghana, together with its partner Vitol Upstream Tano Ltd (Vitol) has signed two Memoranda of Understanding with the Government of Ghana covering two offshore acreages, GH WB 3 and GH WB 8, in Ghana’s Tano Basin, paving the way for the finalisation of the Petroleum Agreements. The Minister for Energy and Green Transition of the Republic of Ghana, Hon. John Jinapor, signed the MoUs on behalf of the Government of Ghana, witnessed by executives from GNPC.
The two acreages cover approximately 2,100 square kilometres, at water depths ranging from 750 to 2,800 metres. Their proximity to established producing areas should enable existing infrastructure to be leveraged. These MoUs follow the signing of the Memorandum of Intent last year.
Vitol has a long history of supporting Ghana’s energy sector. In upstream, it made the discovery, in 2009, that subsequently became known as OCTP. It remains a 35.6% shareholder in the project, alongside the operator Eni Ghana (44.4%) and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (20%).
In addition, Vitol is an active participant in Ghana’s downstream sector. This includes supporting local refineries with reliable feedstock, as well refined product supplies to the bulk distributors. Vitol is also invested in the midstream and downstream infrastructure, including storage and distribution through its affiliates Vana energy and Vivo Energy Ghana.
