We are saddened to announce the passing of Jacques Detiger, one of Vitol’s founding partners. He was 91.
Jacques joined Vitol some months after it was founded 1966, when the core business was trading fuel oil barges along the River Rhine, working alongside founder Henk Viëtor and the other early partners.
He became CEO in 1976 and oversaw a significant expansion of the business. This included opening offices in the US and Asia, as well as expanding our product lines and business activities. He retired as CEO of Vitol in 1990.
Jacques was instrumental in fostering the culture of collaboration that underpins how Vitol operates today. His belief that long-term success is derived from building trust and working together remains at the heart of Vitol’s culture.
Russell Hardy, CEO said: “As we mark the 60th anniversary of Vitol this year, the values and ways of working that Jacques was instrumental in establishing remain as relevant today as they did six decades ago. His focus on the importance of partnership and collaboration defined a collective spirit that generations of colleagues have continued to build.”
