South Sotchemyu

Building on our expertise of developing Devonian fractured carbonate reservoirs, we acquired a 100% interest in the 71 sq km South Sotchemyu exploration block in November 2007. The block is contiguous to the Sotchemyu-Talyu and North Irael fields and benefits from its proximity to existing infrastructure.

The acquisition of 144 km of 2D and 40 sq km of 3D seismic data confirmed the presence of a play type analogous to the Sotchemyu-Talyu and North Irael areas. Our first exploration well, drilled in early 2010, encountered 28 metres of net oil pay in the Devonian carbonate horizon between 1,780 metres and 1,815 metres. On long-term production testing, the well flowed at a stabilised rate of 375 bopd on a 4-mm choke from the lower pay interval.

While further evaluation of the discovery continued, we were granted approval to commence pilot production in the block mid 2010. Since then, we have drilled three further wells, one exploration and two development, and the field is now producing around 850 bopd. The field’s positioning between Sotchemyu-Talyu and North Irael could lead to a rapid tie-in to the existing inter-field pipeline.
