Kazakhstan’s proven combined offshore and onshore oil reserves are estimated at between 30 and 40 billion barrels, comparable with OPEC producers Nigeria and Libya.

Following the disposal of three producing and one appraisal blocks earlier this year, Arawak Energy currently holds 40% of one producing block (remaining 60% held by Maersk) and 100% of one exploration block in Kazakhstan. These blocks are located in the west of the country in the Pre-Caspian Basin, which is ranked among the world’s most prolific basins. Here, there are two principal play types, the subsalt and the suprasalt. Hydrocarbon exploration has been active in the suprasalt since the 1900s while subsalt exploration began in the 1970s

Between 2005, when Arawak Energy entered Kazakhstan, and 2010, our annual net production increased from 968,889 barrels of oil to 3.502 million barrels in 2010, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24%. Including work on exploration blocks, we acquired a total of 1,300 km of 2D and 130 sq km of 3D seismic data and drilled 78 exploration and appraisal wells with a sustained success rate of 63%.
