Vitol’s investments are strategic as well as financial. They are designed to cement and build on our position as one of the world’s largest trading companies, while enhancing our global reach and strengthening local relations with both producers and consumers.

Exploration & Production

Vitol’s E&P strategy is, paradoxically, not to be tied to an E&P strategy.

Rather, we have recognised that the successful practitioners in E&P are those who can be swift, responsive and decisive. This suits our independent status admirably: we have an ability to take managed risks where others may not, and our short chains of command enable us to react to opportunities as soon as they arise.

We couple this with an active global network, identifying and then realising the potential of undervalued assets around the world. We also look for assets where Vitol would be well positioned to become an off-taker, providing extra volume for our crude oil business.

Our E&P assets split geographically into two main areas:

Outside the CIS, including:

Galoc Field, Philippines
Block Marine XI, Congo Brazzaville
Offshore Cape Three Points, Ghana
Aje Field, Nigeria
Oriri Field, Nigeria
Kelly license, East Irish Sea, UK

Inside the CIS, where our interests are represented by our significant shareholding in Arawak Energy.
